Choreographing the Day, Leaving the Night Alone

“There was dance in the forest, at the disco, in strange basements and on brightly lit stages. There is dance in conversation, in imagery, in the movement of pen over paper, but more seldom in the body. No, you can’t say it like that! Of course there is dance in the body! There is no dance without it, there is no me without it. In this encounter I will present my artwork in respect of choreography as a survival strategy and political incentive.” Efva Lilja

Efva Lilja is an unconventional artist, who uses choreographed sequences in the formation of a reality where everyday events and actions are transformed and given new expressions, working with choreography as dance, imagery and text. She creates works that have been described as beautiful, poetic, controversial and groundbreaking, shown in some forty countries and her books and articles have been translated to several languages.
