Marc Cohen: Space Architecture
- HS 7

Dr. Marc M. Cohen is a licensed architect who has devoted his career to design research and development in aerospace, particularly human spaceflight.

In his lecture he will talk about Space Architecture projects, from Earth to Orbit to Mars.

He is holder of 7 US Patents and 2 Ames Technology Awards and worked at the NASA Ames Research Center for 26 years.

During that time he served as architect and co-author for the human exploration of the ‘Mars Design Reference Mission’. He was Project Architect for the ‘Habot Mobile Lunar Base Project’, the Inventor and Team Lead of the ‘Suitport Extra-Vehicular-Activity Access Facility’ and ‘Human Engineering Lead’ amongst other projects. NASA HQ commissioned him with direct funding to develop the “Habot” Mobile Lunar Habitat project for the “early return to the moon.”
Marc Cohen was a charter member of the Space Human Factors Office at Ames and contributed to the International Space Station in configuration, habitability, the US Lab Module at MSFC, the nodes, the cupola, and designing and building the Space Station Proximity Operations Simulator.
After early retirement from NASA Ames in 2005 he became ‘Lead Human System Integration Engineer’ at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. At Northrop Grumman, he focused on the ‘Altair Lunar Lander’, leading a range of Space Architecture and Human Factors projects.

Now, Marc has started a consulting and design practice. With ‘Cohen Astrotecture’ he consults in Human Systems Integration and Space Architecture to provide services to NASA and the Space Community. He is author of many scientific publications.
