Open Lecture: “Institutional Traits: on traces of institutional dwelling”
The presentation will introduce and narrate two bodies of recent work
relating to institutional sites. In each context, material evidence of the pervasive spatial control systems provided the source for Sarah Bennett`s practice-led enquiry, in which she used embodied actions and digital recording methods.
Short Bio:
Sarah Bennett is an artist and academic, who explores institutional sites, both historical and contemporary, through embodied actions and digital recording methods. Her practice-based doctoral research project on a former Victorian Asylum was completed in 2010 and led to a number of interdisciplinary projects and conference papers relating to social
geography, visual anthropology, clinical psychology and architecture. She is Associate Professor in Fine Art at Plymouth University, and Programme Leader for MA Contemporary Art Practice. She works with Transart Institute, NYC, on MFA Creative Practice and their new practice-led PhD programme, both validated by Plymouth University.
