Talk by Lorie Novak

Artist Lorie Novak will be talking about her work Random Interference in conjunction within the context of her larger project drawing from her archive of 15 year of NY Times and other photojournalist images.
The talk will be held in English.

Lorie Novak is an artist and Professor of Photography and Imaging at New York University Tisch School of Arts. Her photographs, installations, and Internet projects have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions including ones at ArtSway, Hampshire, England; The International Center of Photography, NY; Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, AZ,; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Museum of Modern Art, NY; The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; Art Institute of Chicago; and The Jewish Museum, NY; among others. She has been the recipient of residencies at the Bogliasco Foundation, Italy; Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center, Italy; MacDowell Colony (US); Yaddo, US; and ArtSway (England). Her photographs are in numerous permanent collections including the Art Institute of Chicago; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris; Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, AZ; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX; Museum of Modern Art, NY; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Novak’s Collected Visions project, www.collectedvisions.net , 1996-present, exploring how family photographs shape our memory was one of the earliest interactive storytelling sites. She also founded and co-directs Photography & Imaging’s Community Collaborations, a community-based arts project, where NYU students teach photography and digital imaging to NYC high school students. Novak is the Chair of the Arts Committee and Board Member of theHemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics in the Americas. Born in Los Angeles, Novak received a B.A. in Art from Stanford University and a MFA from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. She resides in Brooklyn, New York.
