GesprächsSalon within the frame of the IKA Lecture Series Summer 2016 Architectures of Learning?Learning Architectures | Discursive Practises?Discursive Spaces curated by Anamarija Batista, Waltraud Indrist and Eva Sommeregger.
This year?s summer lecture series will discuss modes of teaching and learning that have been practised at various schools of architecture, ranging from Black Mountain College and Bauhaus to contemporary teaching programmes.
In this series aimed at students, teachers and anyone interested alike, we will focus on the question of how notions of process and discourse shape the ways in which ?learning architecture? is thought, taught and practised.
14.03.2016 | GesprächsSalon
Thought of as a non-hierarchical, inclusive and process-oriented event the »GesprächsSalon« will deal with reading photography through an architectural lens. Photography has the power to transform our notion of surroundings, ambiance and events, and consequently shapes the way space is created and constructed. Laying bare their original motifs, we will discuss three scopes of photographical source material – photographs produced at the Black Mountain Collage, photographs made during the Las Vegas-excursion of Venturi / Scott-Brown / Izenour as well as a selection of experimental photographs made by avant-garde artist in the first half of the 20th Century.
The »GesprächsSalon« will touch upon the following questions:
1. What information in terms of everyday life, learning and teaching processes can be read from the photographic material made at the Black Mountain College?
2. What are the ways in which cameras and movement are employed during the Las Vegas field trip to unveil what might construct people?s Everyday Life?
3. Looking at pioneers and avant-garde artists: how does the medium of photography influence and transform our perception of architecture and city space?
We are cordially inviting you to this event and are looking forward to a vivid discussion.
