Mobile Subjects, Hybrid Histories.
A Talk and Reading by Lawrence Lacambre Ypil in English

Poet and essayist Lawrence Lacambra Ypil will give a brief presentation of Recollect, his ongoing writing project on the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, where more than a thousand Filipinos were put on display as part of the Philippine exposition. He will share excerpts of his work, and talk about the role of hybrid forms in exploring cultural identity and the process of working with archival material as a form of cultural and creative collaboration.

Lawrence Ypil is the author The Highest Hiding Place. He is an MFA in Nonfiction from the University of Iowa and an MFA in Poetry from the Washington University of St. Louis. He is the Writer-in-Residence at Yale-NUS, Singapore. He is the co-curator of Didto’s Amoa (Woher wir kommen) an ongoing exhibit of Filipino diasporic art which runs June 8 - Aug. 31, 2016 at VBKÖ.

In the frame of Didto?s Amoa (Woher wir kommen) featuring works by Alyx Arumpac, Martha Atienza, Enzo Camacho & Amy Lien, Jean Pierre Cueto, Eisa Jocson, Trinka Lat and Jake Verzosa.
