About the book:
Stefan Wissel
Bewegung 15. Juli
The publication references the exhibition of the same name curated by Hans-Jürgen Hafner in spring 2016 for Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen in Düsseldorf. It presents the objects and installations on show there in large-format reproductions, offering an imaginary tour of the exhibition premises.
This substantial documentation is complemented by texts authored by Barbara Buchmaier and Hans-Jürgen Hafner (in German and English) and rounded out by an interview between Alex Wissel and Stefan Wissel which was staged as a live performance at the exhibition.
In his complex oeuvre, which stretches as far back as the beginning of the 1990s, Wissel?s explicit interest is in things. Largely assuming the guise of objects and images, his work integrates everyday items, as well as out-of-the-ordinary materials. He relies not only on functional and designer elements, but also on rough roofing battens and anodized metal profiles, on new and used products and on objets trouvés, furniture and clothes. The range also includes comparatively large items such as a bicycle stand, and small, ephemeral ones such as a sticker, things bought for a specific purpose or borrowed at some point, the decidedly material and the dematerialized, as it were, examples being the blended sound of different pieces of music.
