Prof. Dr. Thomas Girst, b. 1971, studied art history, American Studies and German literature at Hamburg University and New York University. While in New York between 1995-2003 he was head of the Art Science Research Laboratory under the directorship of Stephen Jay Gould, Harvard University. Since 2003, he is the global Head of Cultural Engagement at the BMW Group. Girst lectures at various international universities. In 2016, Girst received the “European Cultural Manager of the Year” award. Recent books include: The Indefinite Duchamp (2013), The Duchamp Dictionary (2014), Art, Literature, and the Japanese American Internment (2015), BMW Art Cars (2016), 100 Secrets of the Art World (2016).
Prof. Dr. Magnus Resch, b. 1984, is an art market expert, serial entrepreneur and bestselling book author. He is considered the world’s most controversial art economist. His activities have been widely covered in the international media and in social media.
At the age of 20 he co-run an art gallery in Switzerland. In 2012 he co-founded Larry’s List, the world’s premier art collector platform. In 2016 he launched the Magnus app, which works like Shazam for Art. Leonardo DiCaprio is an investor and advisor to the company.
Magnus lectures at Columbia University, New York, the University of St. Gallen and Zagreb School of Economics and Management. Recent books include the bestseller Management of Art Galleries and 100 Secrets of the Art World. In 2018 he co-authored the research paper Quantifying Success and Reputation in Art, which was published in Science. Magnus
lives in New York City.
