Evdokia P. Romanova
Obedience and disobedience in art through theatre-based approaches
The lecture will focus on gathered personal experience of the speaker as an artivist and theatre practitioner who worked under the restrictive regime and supported the establishment of the very first LGBTIQ+ theatre group in Samara, Russia. During the lecture, we will uncover the realities of existing art and human rights practices in the context of society where human rights violations are normalized and activists are severely prosecuted for engaging into resistance.
We will first dive into learning about community and human rights practices in Russia and EECA region that are connected to the topics of performative art, and then we will discuss the thread of such work in the context of authoritarianism. We will also look into examples of continuing, but very often covered practices, where theatre is used to work with the oppressed groups of population.
The lecture will be of a participatory character where the participants are encouraged not only to listen but also to ask their questions and share their personal/professional experiences from their life and practice.
Evdokia aka Dunia is a feminist activist originally coming from Samara Russia. Possessing experience in human rights advocacy and practice Dunia was always passionate about connecting social justice work with performative art practices.
