Why did Zeitenwende come about in 2022 and not in 2014, when Russia started its military invasion of Ukraine? How come that Europe dominated by “never again” ideology allowed another fascist war of annihilation on the continent? What role did memory politics and culture of remembrance play in setting ideological conditions enabling reactivation of genocidal fantasies and practices today?

In his talk, Vasyl Cherepanyn, organizer of the Kyiv Biennial, addresses the recent as well as historical experiences of imperialism, colonialism, authoritarianism, and revolution discussing the current threats to reclaiming democracy and the principles of internationalism.
