Rory Hinchey & Zack Kouns (US)

Rory Hinchey has been performing and recording music under his own name for the past 10 years. His second record, Shape Is Nature/Long Fields, was released through his Ownness label on October 08, 2010. The A side of the LP features solo compositions (song-structured arrangements for chord organ, violin and electronics) while the B side is a collaboration between Hinchey and friends Irene Moon and Alison Corbett as The Collection of The Late Howell Bend.

In support of Shape Is Nature/Long Fields Rory Hinchey is embarking upon a concert tour of the European continent during January 2011 titled The Woe of Alchemy. Hinchey’s live setup consists of: a chord organ, resonating wine glasses processed through delay, treated analog circuits, and vintage synthesizers. For these upcoming shows Hinchey is joined by Alison Corbett (B.Mus, M.A.) on violin. The Hinchey/ Corbett duo will perform songs from Shape Is Nature/Long Fields, and selections from Hinchey’s other forthcoming release The Alchemy of Woe.

Following in the success of Rory Hinchey’s 2009 Beauty is Frequently Unkind European tour with Zack Kouns, Mr. Kouns will also join Hinchey and Corbett throughout this series of upcoming performances in Europe. A multi-instrumentalist, Zack plays music with voice, treated saxophone, harmonium, violin, banjo and electronics - he has been active as a touring musician for more than a decade and as a recording artist for far longer.

Aside from the Michael Jackson: “I Just Can’t Start Loving You” LP issued through Ownness last year, Mr. Kouns is also responsible for releases through labels such as Teenage Whore, Clinical Archives, Chocolate Monk, Bumtapes and Isle of Man, amongst others. Zack carried out an 8-day Australian tour during summer of 2010 with Chris Hearn (Alps) who effectively described Zack’s songs and albums as: “constructed around a certain theme - [drawing] heavily from religion, mythology, ancient history, and romantic philosophy… jumping song to song from free folk to Nick Cavesque ballads to ambient electronics to free-jazz, but with subtlety and thoughtfulness.”
