José Loureiro

Opening on the 18th of September the Galerie Grita Insam presents a series of large-sized canvases and gouaches by Portuguese artist José Loureiro, born 1961 in Mangualde. The exhibition was developed in collaboration with Lisbon based Christina Guerra Contemporary Art and runs through the 31st of October.

In addition to the brush, which represents the classical tool of painting, the artist also used various templates to realize this series. The regular grid is created by the nature of a template and one can experience a strong tension when it is juxtaposed to the individually drawn brushstroke. New lines seem systematically drawn like corrections of the original structures. The rhythmicity is cracked by the artist, for instance by the drawing of a rectangle that violates the previously created axiality. Loureiro
