DE/SEMBLE is a music festival with a focus on jazz and experimental music that aims to break new ground in programming. Underrepresented instruments and musicians are brought to the spotlight and stereotypes in instrumentation are artistically reflected. Collaboration with interdisciplinary artists and the inclusion of club culture creates new concert experiences for diverse audiences. The festival is organized as a series of events, each of which stands on its own and presents different concerts, improvisations and performances. Intersectionality is at the heart of the discussion, and thus DE/SEMBLE pursues an artistic-critical reflection of stereotypes within the jazz scene, incorporating not only gender but also transcultural elements. The goal is to create a diverse and inclusive festival program that reflects the creativity and versatility of the Austrian music scene.
DE/SEMBLE is initiated by Regina Fisch and is growing with Mona Matbou Riahi and Katharina Fennesz. DE/SEMBLE is made possible by SHIFT, a funding program of the City of Vienna for the promotion of innovative art and culture, which aims to improve local cultural provision in decentralized regions of Vienna. Additional funding by BMKÖS.
