Sophia Latysheva explores posthumanist studies of increasing identification between humans and machines. In particular, she examines the fusion of the human body with prosthetics, where old paradigms and ethics are juxtaposed with technological advancement. Acceleration Time of Desire draws a parallel between parasports and motorsports considering the equipment of both as a pilot’s milieu, an environment that enables them to perform. Here the convergence point is the apparatus of human desire to overcome the limits of its capabilities through technological enhancement. In this light, biomechanics represents a possible way to break down the binary logic of able/dis-abled, human/non-human bodies. Sophia aims to deconstruct the idea of disability as a lack of ability by focusing on capacities and abilities that emerge in the flourishing relationship between the body and the machine.
