Charlotte Klobassa: Mise en Place Event

We are very excited to announce Charlotte Klobassa’s fourth solo show with the gallery, Mise en Place.

Looking at the phrase from a psychological viewpoint, rather than a culinary, mise en place refers to how one’s stance towards a given environment places constraints on what one feels able to do within that environment, and how these assessments and predispositions impact the process of preparing to act. These contextual and dispositional factors unite to make a particular goal, or set of goals, easier to reach by emphasising some choices and downplaying or eliminating others.

Charlotte Klobassa’s paintings are like this preparation. By her imitation of gestures (those of strangers and her own) she is taking on different positions. With the moods, feelings, images, sentiments, smell of the artists surroundings and the external shocks of current affairs, she makes an attempt to depict imagined possibilities, always looking to the future and back to the present.
