Larissa Wild in dialogue with Margarete Jahrmann about Ludic methods as form of political resistance
New definitions in Experimental Games Cultures: LOW-Interaction Games — a mirror of the world as we know it?
Ludic Soirées hosted by EXPERIMENTAL GAME CULTURES (Margarete Jahrmann)

Games are usually described as a voluntary, interactive experience that sparks joy in the participants. We already know that games are a medium which does not only serve the purpose of entertaining; games can provoke and make us ponder. But what happens to games whose purpose is to entertain, if you strip them of what makes them games – their interactivity?
The new genre of Low-Interaction Games challenges the definition of games, their limits and their rules. Low-Interaction Games take away an integral part of games and thus propose a new range of definitions. They develop a new type of relationship with the player – almost a dominant one – and are still widely enjoyed and played by thousands. Through analyzing Low-Interaction Games we can find and compare patterns in other game genres as well as in our society.

Larissa Wild is an artist, researcher and game designer. She works at Stray Fawn Studio in Zurich, Switzerland and as research assistant at the Zurich University of Arts, managing the reappraisal of Swiss Game Design in the 80s and 90s and on the project ‘ExcerUp!’: A User-centered and research-based development of specific exergame scenarios for rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament injuries. Her involvement in both the commercial game industry and game design research, allows her to take a broader look at game design concepts and events in the gaming world, which will form the backdrop of this discourse, led by the head of Experimental Game Cultures, Margarete Jahrmann.
