Karl Karner (b.1973 in Feldbach, Austria) lives and works in Vienna and Feldbach, Austria. Karner obtained his MA at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna under Professor Heimo Zobernig.

Karner positions his work between the disciplines of visual arts, performance and dance theatre. Within his practice, Karner continuously discusses bodily perception and the concept of corporeality itself. These are not only related to the human body, but can yet be understood as a wide discussion of object, materiality and space. In the artist´s installations and art environments, viewers frequently become players. Such participative impulses accentuate the irony inherent in these artworks.

Kandlhofer Focus is a new section to the gallery program providing a platform for different artistic positions. The section will run concurrently with the gallery´s main exhibition program in the project room and focus on bringing a diverse range of artistic aesthetics and voices to the gallery to form a broader cultural and aesthetic dialogue.
“Alicia Viebrock, a Herbert Brandl student, stands for the gestural and expressive variant of abstraction. Spontaneous calligraphic, powerful brush movements and coloured sprinklings on a mostly neutral or monochrome background recall the German post-war Informell. Partially even figurative appearances like boats or vegetative elements materialize in Viebrocks ink paintings on canvas that come out as playful-eruptive and fluid-transparent at the same time.”
