Dinge, die nicht Dinge sein wollen, die sie sind Event
Desiderio Gallery presents new luminograms and photographic collages by Florian Herzog. His most recent photographic experiments are intertwined with sculptural extensions and propound questions about the status of photography. To this end, he explores both the fundamentals and conditions of photography and combines the imaging function of photography with a strongly conceptual approach. Herzog takes The Greek phrase “photon graphein” [writing with light], from which the term photography is derived, and transforms it into “photon zografisein” [painting with light] as a methodical approach.
In cooperation with Farshido as an ‘’artist-curator’’, Florian is expanding the photographs from the traditional genre of still life with the sculptures on which they are based. And yet there is no duplication, but dis-illusion. The magic of the objects reveals the magic of photography. He contrasts the perfect view with the many perspectives of the real object. Tension arises from the polarity between image and model, between photographic staging and imaginative construction, between black and white and color, between believable reality and factual unreality.
