The title of the exhibition ‘Eyes on Me’ is taken from a song from the video game ‘Final Fantasy 8’. The video game holds nostalgic significance for the artist from childhood and the specific scene in which the song plays over is the point in the narrative when the two main characters fall in love. While creating these works Kajzer was listening to the song in the studio and the eyes of the characters became increasingly significant through the manner in which eyes become an inside view. In this respect, in Kajzer’s work, this both relates to the composition of the eyes allowing for a view into the layers of the painting technique but also in a metaphorical sense they become the focal point that allows the viewer access into the characters.

Kajzer’s practice involves significant layering of the paint at first in a free and instinctual manner, from which the figuration of the characters grows organically. For some works the compositions become clear more quickly than others however the process of being open to the gestural flow of the paint is a fundamental aspect of Kajzer’s work.

Aneta Kajzer (born 1989 in Katowice, Poland) currently lives and works in Berlin. Kajzer studied for her Master’s degree in Fine Arts at Kunsthochschule Mainz (Germany) under Prof. Anne Berning and Prof. Shannon Bool.
