Kosmos Architects: c̶̶o̶̶n̶ temporary ̶a̶̶r̶̶c̶̶h̶̶i̶ tecture

KOSMOS Architects is an office collaborating virtually, bringing together partners based in Zurich, Moscow, Graz and New York. KOSMOS designs projects and environments of all types and scales: from a door handle to a city; from hardcore architecture to pop-up art installations. The office combines art and technology, global experience with respect to local context, academic research and practical architecture.
KOSMOS Architects received awards and prizes in various competitions, including the “Prix de Geneve” in Experimental Architecture, Pro Helvetia 1st prize in competition for Swiss Pavilion for Prague Quadriennial, Milano Archmarathon Award for the “Best sports building”; Hans Christian Andersen Museum Competition in Denmark; Queensway Competition in New York; Street Architecture Competition for Storefront for Art and Architecture; Archiwood Award for the “Best building in wood”; got nominated to Swiss Art and Design Awards 2017. KOSMOS architects have co-curated an exhibition “Forum Basel” in Swiss Architecture museum in Basel.
Work of KOSMOS was exhibited at Swiss Architecture Museum, Venice Biennale, Sao Paolo Biennale, Garage Museum of Art, Moscow Architecture Biennale, Swiss Art and Design awards 2017 and other institutions.
KOSMOS gave lectures in ETH Zürich, Mendrisio Academy, HEAD Geneve, University of Antwerpen, New York New Museum, Tallinn University; led workshops for AA Visiting School, University of Antwerpen, ‘Hello Wood’, Strelka Institute; taught studios in MARCHI, Moscow and INDA Institute, Bangkok. Currently KOSMOS leads a design studio in ‘HEAD University’ in Geneva.
Partners of KOSMOS are originally from Moscow; they received architectural education in Columbia University GSAPP in New York, Shibaura Institute in Tokyo and Moscow Architectural Institute. For more than 6 years they were collaborators of OMA*AMO and SOM in New York and Herzog & de Meuron in Basel, Switzerland.

Currently the office works on a park in Nizhniy Novgorod, Airport in Kamchatka, Sport center in Kazan, horse-back riding center in Tuscany, offices in Geneva and several other projects.
Built projects include: Nike Sports Center in Moscow; Airport lounge in Yekaterinburg; EMA Space - a renovation of former industrial territory into an Art Center; Pavilion for the Garage Center in Gorky Park; series of pavilions in Arles; a series of 6 installations in Geneva; exhibition for V-A-C Foundation in MMOMA; light pavilion in Moscow; street installation in front of New Museum in New York; pavilions in Hungary, France, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic.
KOSMOS’ work expands beyond architecture as well, collaborating with artists, photographers, designers, publishers and researchers. Research topics of the office range from the history of K. Malevich grave to scaffoldings; from regulations of public spaces to relations of architecture and alcohol.
