Maria Hanl | “The Beautiful Form, the Time, the Collapse”

Maria Hanl is interested in sociological subsystems which are often viewed separately because each of them only comprises a small, often very specific realm of knowledge. Hence, they always connect to numerous areas of life. Maria’s artworks are poetic, light, shiny, sometimes seem to fly—stagings at work with optical illusions, which only upon second glance prove to be manipulations of the material.
Maria studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna as well as in London. She further holds degrees from the University of Vienna.

János Kertész | “What do digital footprints tell about us? From the grandma effect to economic misbehavior”

The new information communication technologies have changed our lives in fundamental ways: Creating and maintaining social relationships, learning and working, acquiring information and participating in relevant processes have all got radically new forms. In today’s highly computerized world almost all of our activities leave records, “digital footprints” behind. While this phenomenon generates much justified concern, the data provides a gold mine for science.

In his short talk, János will introduce us to analyses of detailed mobile phone records, social media or the entire body of public procurement database—and what we can learn from it about human behavior.
