Performative Screenings #57: Nils Amadeus Lange, 666 Event
With 666, Nils Amadeus Lange places the classic figure of reference of radically feminist aesthetics at the centre of his work: the witch. Acting as the ultimate figure of resistance – against the hegemony of patriarchy and the capitalist mode of production – the witch is being transferred into a contemporary field of action.
Nils Amadeus Lange, born in Cologne in 1989, works as a performer and choreographer in Zurich. He uses his body as a weapon, with which he pierces through his audience’s heads, in order to subsequently dissect memories of conventions, role models and gender stereotypes from their brains.
His aesthetic is characterised by cooperations with other artists in addition to interdisciplinary thinking. In recent years he started various collaborations, among them with Florentina Holzinger, Vincent Riebeek, Annina Machaz and Manuel Scheiwiller. At the Lithuanian pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2015, he was part of the young boy dancing group, a company with open authorship. His works have been shown at various locations such as Kunsthalle Basel, Manifesta Zürich, Centre d´arts Contemporain Geneve, Swiss Dance Days, Zürich moves!, Gessnerallee, Frascati Amsterdam, ZÜRICH TANZT, Berliner Festspiele, Kunsthalle Bern, Les Urbaines Lausanne, Südpol Luzern, Tanzhaus Zürich und CounterPulse San Francisco.
