Sexing The Border Event
DEJMI HADROVIC
The title addresses a geographical and political border. Second, it appeals to socio-cultural borders. This idea of the exhibition discusses sexuality, female role, across and within the borders of form er Eastern Europe. lts subject is provocative in its attention to gender, to feminism and to sexualities in relation to Islam. lt attempts to redefine what position of Islam in Europe is, after the demise of Communism. They are not only Western European Orientalist fantasies of projecting Muslims in the Balkans as objects of reform and Europeanization but also a form of internalized lslamophobic narratives that in effect seek to disconnect Muslims in the Balkans.
