Sudarshan Shetty (b. 1961) completed his BFA in painting from Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai in 1985. Moving from painting exclusively to installation early on in his career, Shetty explores the fundamental ontological challenges presented by our immersion in a world of objects. His installations are developed around a rigorous grammar of materials, mechanical exposure and unlikely juxtapositions of things that may belong to culturally distinct spheres. Moreover Shetty?s object language eschews narrative as well as established symbolism.

I MARVEL AT YOUR FORGETFULNESS

The body of works shown in the series, ?I Marvel at Your Forgetfulness? hints at a playful exchange between the two selves that reside in each of us – the performer and the silent observer. Each vying for the other?s attention, they share a relationship that seems comparable with that of lovers. Drawing joy even from each other?s forgetfulness in love, devoted to each other and yet deriving much pleasure by teasing the other – the title is suggestive of a very intimate yet complex relationship we share with ourselves.

Martha Jungwirth and Eva Schlegel are bound to each other by their passion for Asia. A multifaceted and impressive serie of works resulted from Martha Jungwirth?s trip to Cambodia and Indonesia. Eva Schlegel?s participation in the Kochi Biennial 2017 was an important event to reflect on her past examination of this heterogeneous continent. Both artists reflect on their personal relationship to this landscape, culture and art.
