with ?arko Aleksi? (in English)
Im Rahmen der Veranstaltungsreihe Donnerstags in der Bibliothek der Universitätsbibliothek der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien
Making use of Borgesian metaphor of the library as an infinite semantic labyrinth, ?arko Aleksi? proposes a metaphor of a locus in the brain where the information is stored. Separate pieces of information are brought into the consciousness, priming the dream he will dream. The artist chooses consciously a piece (book/movie) from the Academy library and exposes it to himself, sixteen hours straight. After priming (watching the movie in the loop, or reading the book constantly), ?arko Aleksi? will go to sleep; he will carry an EEG device on his head, so that his assistant will be able to detect brain waves once he enters the REM phase. Awaken during the REM phase, he will report his dream into a camera. ?arko Aleksi? will produce the series Dreams of Reality from this pseudo scientific experiment. The works will be exhibited in the Academy library on several monitors.
?arko Aleksi?, born 1985 in Knja?evac/Serbia, studied Philosophy at the University of Belgrade and is currently a student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in the class of Marin Guttmann. He is the founder of the informal group UMETNIK*. Numerous international exhibitions
