Silver Springs

alison yip was born in calgary, canada and presently lives/works in the netherlands. she studied in calgary, düsseldorf, hamburg and in other situations in-between.
for gärtnergasse, alison presents silver springs, figuring the artist in limbo; one who sidles along hedges in uncertainty. optical tricks and impasto make felt, slippage, between the inside and outside of painting. the name refers to a neighbouring suburb. in between was uncut grass where she set her pet praying mantis free. an archway is stitched together out of unreliable histories: a secret obsession, a hurried answer, a twisted ankle. but collectively they form a veritable passage. here is a place for mobility.
