Collectors Agenda is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Finnish artist Riiko Sakkinen in Austria, in its project space at Franz-Josefs-Kai 3.
Riiko Sakkinen (*1976, Helsinki, Finland) composes drawings, paintings, murals, slideshows, installations and interventions that comment on consumer culture, from fast-food to prostitution, from hypermarkets to drug cartels. In his Vienna show, the artist puts the finger on the immobility of Western European societies, particularly in the wake of the events of recent years, which saw Europe grapple with topics such as immigration, integration and identity.
Sakkinen?s works have been exhibited widely around the world in galleries and museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Camden Arts Centre in London and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. In Austria his work has been shown at Magazin4 of the Bregenzer Kunstverein, in 2006, and at QuadrART in Dornbirn in 2015. His works are included in the permanent collections of several museums, including The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Sakkinen lives and works in Spain.
Coinciding with Riiko Sakkinen’s solo show, Zeller van Almsick are opening “CUIRASS” with Minda Andrén and on the Mezzanin of Franz-Josefs-Kai 3, Neuer Kunstverein Wien will be showing “Thingness” with Yingmei Duan (CN).
There will be a bar to quench your thirst at ground floor level (AIL- Angewandte Innovation Lab) and you are very welcome to join us for an afterparty at ?Das kleine Vorspiel? (tunes by Bjørn Segschneider), Hanuschgasse 3, starting 22H.
