Karl Karner (1973), born in Feldbach, Austria, lives and works in Vienna and Feldbach, Austria.
He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (under Heimo Zobernig) in 2012.

Karl Karner’s latest sculptural works oscillate between traces of gesture in the work process and relics of forms produced by nature itself. “Informal meets Nature.” The artist’s starting point is wax shaped in water, which when hardened is cast into bronze or aluminum. The artist’s intent and acute sense of direction during the work process obstruct the potential of chance and the natural laws dominating the genesis of forms. We are arbitrarily reminded of “Bleigießen,” the German and Austrian custom of pouring molten lead into water on New Year’s Eve: amorphous, formal constellations allowing an infinite scope of associations - ghost ships, coral reefs, crystalline worlds and fantastic apocalyptic landscapes.
