Liberty in Space_A Project placed in Istanbul

Suggesting atmospherical needs to be an essential part of an urban renewal, public to semi-public spaces will be integrated in a dense urban neighborhood of Istanbul, called Cihangir. Two requirements have to be fulfilled: The consistency of existing architectural elements of the neighborhood such as the mihrab, the mashrabiyya, the window grid, the fountain and the oriel window by transforming them into contemporary prospect and to break density and give a sense of openness in the neighborhood.

?It was in Cihangir that I first learned Istanbul was not an anonymous multitude of walled - in lives - a jungle of apartments where no one knew who was dead or who was celebration what - but an archipelago of neighborhoods in which everyone knew each other. –

Similar like the Turkish author Orhan Pamuk describes Cihangir as an interwoven community, five atmospheric conditions of public spaces are being proposed.

Türk yazar Orhan Pamuk’un Cihangir’i tasvir ederken kulland??? iç içe geçmi? bir topluluk nitelemesine uygun olarak, be? farkl? atmosfere sahip kamusal alanlar önerilmektedir.
