University by Design: the Role of the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences in a New Technology Intensive University in Singapore
The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), established in collaboration with M.I.T., defines its mission as nurturing ?technologically-grounder leaders and innovators to serve societal needs?. In a new, start-up university focused on engineering and architectural design, what role do the humanities, arts and social sciences play in making this overarching vision a tangible reality? What are the constraints and opportunities of building a new university from the ground up? How does this new University by Design conceive of and serve broader societal needs?
