Over the last 4 years the AA Visiting School MITTELMEERLAND
investigated the future of the Mediterranean- a ‘territory’, one that
is based on climatic and economic conditions, and subject to specific
social, political and spatial dynamics and experiences. We travelled 6
different Mediterranean cities: Dubrovnik, Tangier, Beirut, Algiers,
Alexandria and finally Izmir.
Medine Altiok will present the projects and reflect on the findings
and results. What are similarities and differences of the cities? Does
the Mediterranean have the potential to establish as one territory
despite the political conflicts?
Could we see and learn something new about the Mediterranean?
MEDINE ALTIOK graduated from the AA London, where she is program
director of the Mittelmeerland Visiting School since 2011. She is
initiator of a series of research projects dealing with cultural,
political and economic changes in the Mediterranean. She is based in
Zurich with her own architecture office.
