elisabeth hase
was born in 1905 in göhlen (germany).
in 1923 she moved to frankfurt am main where she studied art from 1924 till 1929. in 1932, she became self-employed. she focused her attention on timeless motifs such as still life, structures, plants, dolls, people, and self-portraits. she started cooperation with agencies such as holland press service or the agency schostal and her photographs started to be published internationally. despite the heavy bombing of frankfurt in 1944, her archive survived the war. and in 1946, despite the loss of technical equipment after the end of the war, she continued her work thanks to the help of her émigré friends who provided her with photographic materials and tools, impossible to find in germany at that time. from 1949, her interest went to advertising images and mostly plant’s portraits. elisabeth hase died in 1991, at the age of 88, in frankfurt am main.
elisabeth hase was of one of the first independent women photographer of her time.
