SUBOTRON/WKW pro games: Rovio Stars and free-to-play publishing
Jussi Immonen
Head of portfolio and business at “Angry Birds´” Rovio stars, Helsinki
What makes a great free-to-play game? What makes a great free-to-play publisher?
Rovio Entertainment is an industry-changing entertainment media company and the creator of the globally successful “Angry Birds” franchise. Rovio’s games have been downloaded over 1.7 billion times and they reach a quarter of a billion fans monthly. This massive reach and expertise in mobile gaming sets Rovio in an unique position to publish 3rd party games. In Summer 2013 Rovio launched a publishing initiative called Rovio Stars, which aims to help indie developers to push their games to the highly competitive mobile game market.
Just having a great game is not enough anymore. The transition to the free-to-play model has made the market entry even harder for small indie developers. Rovio Stars publishing initiative offers the developers far more than the traditional model.
The presentation features a comprehensive outlook for the mobile gaming market and explains what is needed for success. It also includes case studies of launched Rovio Stars titles and the comparison of differences in publishing premium games and free-to-play games.
