Jon Goodbun: Radical Theatre. Staging the Dialectic of Emergence and Planning

Modern multinational corporations are planned economies at a scale that the USSR could barely dream of. Many on the left appear spell-bound by ideas of self-organisation and emergence: concepts which embody neoliberal as much as anarcho-communist thinking. In this Theoriesalon Jon Goodbun will reflect upon these contradictions, and the role that architecture plays in staging a dialectic of emergence and planning.

Dr Jon Goodbun runs the research lab Rheomode and teaches at the Royal College of Art, University of Westminster and the Bartlett schools of architecture. He recently co-guest-edited an issue of AD on ‘Scarcity’, and is working on a book of his PhD ‘Critical Urban Ecology: Architecture and Mind’.
