Joke Lanz & Sophie Agnel Event
Sophie Agnel
Trained in classical music and modern jazz, she gradually moved into the shifting terrain of free improvisation, fascinated by the expressive power of some of the great heretics of the keyboard such as Keith Tippett, Fred Van Hove and Christine Wodrascka. Reworking prepared piano techniques through the prism of improvised music, she then applied herself to „introducing the prosaic nature of the contemporary world into the very belly of Western musical refinement“ and transforming her instrument into a kind of „extensive prep-piano“ or „extended piano“. She then laid the foundations for a radically materialist, lyrical, abstract and sensualist universe.
She collaborates with Josef Nadj („etc etc“), composes for the theatrical adaptation of Charles Reznikov’s „Testimony“, performs on stage with the poets Nicolas Tardy, Christophe Marchand Kiss, Christiane Veschambre… She performs with Barbara Dang in a four-handed performance of pieces by the composer Tom Johnson. In 2014, she joined the Orchestre National de Jazz (ONJ). With the help of the GMEA and luthier Laurent Paquier, she designed an experimental electro-acoustic instrument, the „cordophone/nOpiano“, opening up new horizons for her.

Joke Lanz
Turntablist Joke Lanz creates autonomous sound-cells that melt into a language free of any function. He combines ritual reductionism with anarchistic playfulness, atmospheric soundscapes with cut-up noise and physicality with unpredictability.
Best known for his international acclaimed band project “Sudden Infant”, Joke Lanz has been presenting his work for 30 years all over the world. Born in Switzerland and currently operating out of Berlin, he is one of the most prolific and profound artists working in the border zones where performance and body art meet improvisation and noise.
Collaborations with: Shelley Hirsch, Christian Marclay, Peter Kowald, Olaf Rupp, Ken Vandermark, Johannes Bauer, Lasse Marhaug, Jorge Sanchez-Chiong, Strotter Inst, Christian Weber, Charlotte Hug, Audrey Chen, Ute Wassermann, DJ Olive, Sophie Agnel, dieb13, eRikM, Martin Tétreault, Eklekto Ensemble Geneva, Alexandre Babel, Christian Wolfarth, Jonas Kocher, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, just to name a few.
