Workshop

Mediating visual knowledge through film performance. A dissident and reflective exploration with Faris Cuchi Gezahgen & Marissa Lôbo.

1. Introduction to Dissident Film Performance
Introduce participants to the concept of dissident and reflective film performances that challenge traditional narratives and offer alternative perspectives.

2. Exploration of Film Art
Share and analyze key references in film art, particularly those that resonate with BIPOC and immigrant experiences.

3. Mediation of Visual Knowledge
Discuss film performance as a medium for conveying visual knowledge, focusing on how it transcends conventional forms of communication.

4. Interactive Analysis
Engage participants in conversations about how film performances intersect with their own identities and cultural experiences.

PARTICIPATION
Participation is free of charge. The workshop will be held in English.
The workshop is specifically addressed to BIPOC artists, filmmakers, and immigrants involved in kültüř gemma’s artist scholarship program.

Faris Cuchi Gezahgen
(they/them/theirs)
is a femme non-binary and intersectional LGBTQIA*/Human Rights advocate/activist who uses multifaceted mediums as conduits in securing the sanctity of humanity that we all deserve. They are living archivists, Ethiopian ZEGA/QUEER knowledge and culture conjurers/summoners, multidisciplinary artists, poets, style activists, and part of the PCCC (Politically Correct Comedy Club) ensemble and many-festation that will arise in their future selves. Through their practices, they collectively founded grassroots organizations such as Dana Social Group, Celestial Poetic Night, and House of Guramayle, and they are an active member of Afro Rainbow Austria.

Marissa Lôbo
(she/her/hers)
is a conceptual artist, curator and cultural producer, dedicated to bringing together practices of hospitality, care and affection, feeding transformative and political artistic practices. She was part of maiz, a self-organized collective of/for migrants. She is co-founder and artistic director of kültüř gemma!, co-curator of projects such as »Night School« at the
Wiener Festwochen Smashing Wor(l)ds: Cultural Practices for re/Imagining & un/Learning Vocabularies, Vivências | Art as Vessel to Conjure Space of Softness, Soft Club and currently of the MEZEKERƎ Festival for Global Majority Arts, Politics & Care.
