KEINE ANGST - Words of reassurance, aimed at providing security and comfort, gain an almost cynical undertone in a climate of polycrisis. How could one not be afraid at a time when each crisis seamlessly gives way to the next, when fundamental human rights and democratic values that were considered as given are being undermined?
For Barbara Moura, KEINE ANGST is not a denial of global socio-political developments, but a political stance of self-empowerment that reclaims agency by refusing to be governed by fear. Through self-portraits, she positions herself in contrasting emotional states, reenacting the evolving stages of conflict resolution—from despair and hopelessness to resilience and determination. References to Old Master painting in composition and lighting are juxtaposed with contemporary iconography such as tarot cards, reflecting the boom of spirituality among millennials and Gen Z and the emergence of new coping mechanisms within a generation shaped by uncertainty.
