Instability of Form after the Global Turn

Considering how the formal instability of art relates to its intimations
 of catastrophe, and how art renders objective the crises of a
bordered world, this lecture will unfold a methodology that aims to 
recast “global art” showing how twentieth-century anti- or a-formal
 art practices register or manifest the unevenness of capitalist modernity. 
I argue that accounting for the anti- or a-formal investments
 in art, in conjunction with an analysis of the combined and uneven 
temporalities undergirding global capitalist development, will provide the conditions of possibility to rethink the “global turn” today.
