Rebecca Chesney
Capturing Change

Department of DIGITAL ARTS/ Ruth Schnell

In this presentation Rebecca will talk about the methods she uses and information she gathers to make and present her work. Weather, water quality, air pollution, land ownership, sea level rise, habitat loss and decline of species are all subjects her work investigates, taking the form of installations, interventions, habitat creation, sound works, drawings, maps and walks.

Rebecca Chesney’s practice examines our complex relationship with the natural world, by engaging with issues of culture, politics and power. Her work has been exhibited widely including at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Manchester International Festival, Newlyn Art Gallery, Rubin Center for the Visual Arts in Texas, Full of Noises Festival in Barrow, Springhornhof in Germany, and the Bluecoat in Liverpool. Awards include a Lucas Artist Fellowship to Montalvo Arts Centre in California, USA and a Gasworks International Fellowship to CONA in Mumbai, India.

She is currently artist in residence at Q21/MuseumsQuartier Wien, by invitation of sound art organisation TONSPUR Kunstverein Wien.

This artist talk is part of a cooperation between the department of Digital Arts (Prof. Ruth Schnell) / University of Applied Arts Vienna and TONSPUR Kunstverein Wien (artistic director Georg Weckwerth).
