Walter Benjamin asserted in the thirties that visitors should leave exhibitions not ‘more knowing’ but ‘smarter’. This challenge can be overcome by elaborating interesting and exceptional thematic questions and approaches, by attaching new contextualizations to presented stories and exhibits, by consulting and integrating themes and methods of various disciplines, and last but not least by the way exhibitions excel in humour and irony.
