MobileMonday Austria #4: Extending Reality

Extending Reality: Exploring the Austrian AR Community - MobileMonday Austria #4

In order to extend ones physical reality you do not need a space helmet with miracle eyeglasses - the only thing you need is a standard smart phone!

Consider this, you are able to look at your plane ticket with the camera-lens of your mobile to view information about your flight and any actual delays including a map projecting where you are. Or, you can project a piece of furniture from the IKEA catalog into the middle of your living room, without having to go to IKEA.

This new technology is called “Augmented Reality”. With Augmented Reality digital information is no longer limited to stationary screens, but it can be suddenly be viewed everywhere and merged smoothly within the real world.
Sounds futuristic? That’s exactly what it is!

Augmented Reality is currently a hot-subject of research which busily occupies researchers and developers from all over the world. On the 30th of November 2009 MobileMonday Austria will bring for the first time to the Austrian public a behind the scenes look of what is happening in Austrian Augmented Reality R&D Labs.

Austria is known as one of the leading economies shaping research and development in the field of Augmented Reality. MobileMonday Austria is hosting a round-table, panel discussion, featuring leading experts who discuss the current and future possibilities in extending and augmenting reality.

How will Augmented Reality change the ways obtaining and consuming Information? What role does research play in this industry? Is there more to it than research studies and prototypes and can AR establish itself in economy?
We are pleased to announce the following panelists:

DI Dr. Daniel Wagner - Researcher, TU Graz
