***Improper Walls invites you to the last Improper Session of 2022 with a live show and a video screening.

***S K Y is a sonic exorcist from Warsaw. Her live shows are like nightmare lullabies mixing drama wave and witch pop.

***Before the show, we will screen a video essay by Zosia Hołubowska “Tarot of change” which deals with the topic of change in the context of the Polish feminist movement. Zosia is a queer sound artist, researcher, and activist who co-curated the evening.

TAROT FOR CHANGE
A synthesizer and poetic essay that touches upon and, as it were, relives the topic of change as an alternative to utopia. Thoughts flow from feminist sci-fi to panic attacks to post-socialist anthropology. The sonic backdrop of a non-linear journey through dark corners in search of hope and help. The work is dedicated to activists and activists of the Women’s Strike. Zosia Hołubowska is a sound artist, researcher, curator, and activist interested in queering musical archives and compositional methodologies. Their practice is collective, and collaborative and approaches singing as creating knowledge and synthesizer as a feminist tool.

SKY a.k.a. sorrowkillsyouth is a bedroom producer based in Warsaw, Poland. She treats her project as a sonic exorcism of fears and sorrow. Through the musical language of nightmares and dreams, the sound of haunting vocal harmonies, and cinematic, gloomy synths, SKY struggles to reconcile with ghosts of the past and put to sleep her inner demons.
SKY’s inspirations come from a variety of music genres - darkwave, witch house, shoegaze, noise, or singers-songwriters - but she holds back from defining herself by any particular style. Her songs are reminiscent of a soundtrack for an unreleased season of Twin Peaks and would please the fans of the more atmospheric, ethereal, and darker side of electronic music.
Since her debut, SKY played over 70 shows, both in her home country and abroad, performing alongside such artists as HTRK, White Ring, Kaelan Mikla, Bleib Modern, and Soft Kill. Apart from making her own music, she supports local scenes by working as a programmer for independent music venue Chmury and as a promoter, organizing shows under the Unicorn moniker. She hosts her own radio show called SLEEP HELL on the first Polish community radio Radio Kapitał and is an occasional DJ, focused mainly on the eastern European witch house genre.
