We are pleased to invite you to the opening of Johanna Magdalena Guggenberger’s solo exhibition, Komme gleich, at Wonnerth Dejaco, Vienna.

In subtle sculptural and painterly processes, Johanna Magdalena Guggenberger transfers and transforms found objects and shapes from different cultural, personal and natural surroundings, detaching them from their original use, or from what they used to represent. Freed from function and encyclopedic categorization, the resulting objects and assemblages retain an air of the everyday and the vernacular. By placing them in new contexts, Guggenberger opens up a plurality of connotations, fostering processes of cultural sedimentation and creating space for new histories and meanings.

Johanna Magdalena Guggenberger (b.1985, Vienna, Austria), studied Social and Cultural Anthropology, Arabic and Islamic studies in both Vienna and Pakistan before joining the Fine Arts Academy Vienna to study with Pawel Althamer and Julian Goethe.
