“Passport” examines the laws, media and productive spaces for making citizenship in the places where belonging is defined by blood. f-architecture’s research on the contemporary incarnations of paternal jus sanguinis (where nationality is conferred through a father’s bloodline) seeks out the gendered terms of belonging in twenty-five nation states. With a focus on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan — where f-architecture worked in residence at the Lab at Darat al Funun — and the extra-citizen category known as the abna’ al-urduniyat or “Children of Jordan Women,” this exhibition attempts to see the documentary and bodily expressions of laws which continue to write women out of the protections and rights of citizenship.

feminist architecture collaborative is a three-woman* architectural research enterprise aimed at disentangling the contemporary spatial politics of bodies, intimately and globally. Their projects traverse theoretical and material registers to locate new forms of architectural work through critical relationships with collaborators across continents and an expanding definition of Designer.

f-architecture are winners of the 2019 Architectural League Prize. Their research-based exhibition Como- Clinical Interiors of Beirut, originally installed at VI PER Gallery in Prague, has been presented by the Architectural League of New York, and at the NTU Institute of Science and Technology for Humanity in Singapore, where they are shortlisted for the 2019 Global Digital Art Prize. Their writing and work has appeared in Harvard Design Magazine, e-flux architecture, Ed, The Funambulist, PIN-UP and Real Review, and at institutions including Morgan Library and Museum, Studio-X Amman, Universität der Künste Berlin, the New School, and UN-Habitat. f-architecture is a former member of the GSAPP Incubator @ NEW INC, the incubator initiative of the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York.

*Virginia Black, Gabrielle Printz, and Rosana Elkhatib co-founded f-architecture in 2016 as their shared alias for architectural work and criticism. They maintain their wily practice and their deep friendship in Brooklyn, New York.

The exhibition was initially supposed to open on the 19th of March 2020 and was postponed to mid-August. Due to the current situation unfortunately Virginia Black, Gabrielle Printz and Rosana Elkhatib from feminist architecture collaborative are unable to come to Vienna for the exhibition opening. On the 12th of September 2020 an online panel discussion with invited guests will be held in order to discuss the subjects raised by the exhibition. If possible, Gabrielle, Virginia and Rosana will come to Vienna in 2021 for a lecture at MAGAZIN.
