Storylines:
On the boundary between what is real and unreal, Viktors Svikis paints a colourful and fragmented picture of our world in his large-format media, which clearly emanates from artistic imagination, yet finds a strong reference point in our everyday world, where people are inundated with information by the mass media and strongly influenced in their perception. The enigmatically attractive colourfulness and diversity as well as the multidimensional nature and multiple layers of his works are based on both different techniques and materials as well as on a multitude of different themes and references used.

When determining the genre, it is already difficult to put individual works in a specific category. Svikis laminates empty pieces of paper onto canvases, rips them off again, and then glues them back on. A canvas prepared this way serves him as a form of base coat for his “Storylines”, which take on their first contours through charcoal and ink lines. They are filled and painted over with acrylic and oil colour, sometimes creating a photorealistic impression. Despite the painting moments, Viktors Svikis is above all a classic draftsman and gives drawing priority over painting in his artistic oeuvre.
