We are particularly thrilled to announce Alex Ito’s first gallery solo show in Austria. Please join us for a conversation with Alex Ito and Yves-Michele Saß (Parnass - Kunstmagazin) ahead of the opening.

You Promised Catastrophe, continues Ito’s investigation into how images, industry and memory become entangled to create rhetoric of everyday violence. By examining the relationships between violence and the body, Ito illuminates precarious complexities that lie within social movement, material growth and capitalist reproduction. The exhibition calls into question a crisis of progress; where narratives of futurity and hope disguise practices of exclusion and erasure.

Alex Ito was born in 1991 in Los Angeles, California. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute, New York. Solo and two-person exhibitions include Act II: Carcass and the White Light at Springsteen, Baltimore; Act I: The Crucible‘s Nest at AALA, Los Angeles; (O), The Stranger at Hotel Pavilion (with Amna Ashgar), New York; and group exhibitions including CONDO, Springsteen (hosted by Breve), Mexico City.

Ito is director of Chen’s, New York. Forthcoming exhibitions include a solo exhibition at Galeria Mascota, Mexico City. Ito lives and works in New York.

Saß is a co-founder of Loggia (Munich) and the head of digital for Parnass magazine. He lives and works in Vienna and Munich.
