Sounds Queer? How to start playing music

HOW TO START PLAYING MUSIC WITHOUT KNOWING HOW TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT?

The workshop offers an introduction to playing electronic music. There will be a drum machine, synthesizers, noise boxes and good old casios;-) as well as vocal effects. We will start from basic information on cables and electricity as well song writing exercises. Then we will take it from there and try to make a song. It will be a space to try things out, share experiences and resources and get to now other geeks.

ZOSIA HO?UBOWSKA
is a queer sound artist and music activist. As a PhD fellow at the Academy of Fine Arts they research on creating queer safer spaces through music and approaching singing as analytical practice. They have been involved in bands like Prison, Fallow Ground and Wilcze Jagody that toured around Europe, Australia and Canada, as well as a queer feminist booking collective and a label Collective Tantrums. They have organized and facilitated music workshop in Poand, Denmark, Australia and Ukraine where they have lived. Thanks to Kultur Gemma! funding they are able to organise and run music workshops in Vienna’s Mz* Baltazar’s Lab.

DOOR POLICY
The project prioritizes women, girls, queers, trans, intersex and non-binary people but there’s no identity policy. Everyone is welcome but before coming think about how easy is it for you to get access to this kind of skills and tools? How easy is it for you to feel comfortable and safe at
a workshop with strangers? Please bear in mind that you might be ask to give space to others at
a workshop first.

Sounds Queer? is about creating a safer space through music. Join us for workshops, skill sharing sessions, introductions to synth and electronic music, jam sessions and networking events. Become a part of a queer synth laboratory at feminist hacker space Mz* Baltazar’s Lab in the 22nd district. Share your skills and passion for music! No prior experience or any musical knowledge is necessary!
