What is, for you personally, an important part of the cultural heritage of your culture or nation?
Bring it to the temporary office of the Future Heritage Collection!
Many municipalities and countries of the world collect and preserve their cultural heritage to make cultural developments in particular surroundings understandable for future generations and to preserve what our ancestors considered important. But, what is to be done, when cultural institutions of a city, region or country are no longer able to gather and protect cultural heritage systematically, as in case of the current crisis of cultural institutions in the Balkans? Can we imagine a future without national museums, art galleries, archives and libraries of record?
You are invited to help assemble the Future Heritage Collection during the “In Transitional Landscapes” conference on January 16, 2015.
We seek an active participation of citizens who are willing to become collectors of their own cultural heritage and to bring in contributions for the Future Heritage Collection. Anyone can contribute to the collection and bring in objects: these could be recognisable objects of art and culture, but also objects of everyday life, household goods, furniture, items of clothing, handicraft, books, poems… the introduced objects will be collected, displayed, photographed and catalogued during the conference, and then returned to their owners. We will ask you to share a short story about your objects, explaining its meaning and context.

Aufgrund von politischen und gesellschaftlichen Landschaften im Umbruch stellen wir in Werkgesprächen erneut die Frage nach dem Arbeiten im und mit dem Raum. Diese vielschichtigen, weitläufig vernetzten Räume, die morgen schon ganz anders sein können, sind das Arbeitsfeld von KünstlerInnen, ArchitektInnen und RaumforscherInnen. Inhalte werden wie im Staffellauf weitergegeben. Der interdisziplinäre Dialog thematisiert, welche Kanäle diese Umbrüche letztendlich in Theorie, Architektur und Kunst finden. Diese Wechselwirkungen werden wir gemeinsam mit eingeladenen Gästen in Bezug auf ihre Arbeitsfelder und Praktiken diskutieren.
Wie können Umbrüche, Kontexte und Perspektiven aufgenommen werden, ohne eine ständige Rückschau zu produzieren? Welche neuen Räume und Alltagspraktiken sind im Entstehen und wie reagieren PlanerInnen, ForscherInnen und AktivistInnen darauf? Was bedeuten diese unterschiedlichen und vielschichtigen Herangehensweisen für die Geschwindigkeit der Produktion bis hin zu den individuellen Biographien der AkteurInnen?

Diese öffentliche Veranstaltung ist auch Teil des Wahlseminars “Art in Transitional Landscapes” am Institut für Kunst und Gestaltung, Technische Universität Wien, und wurde entwickelt, um ArchitekturstudentInnen dabei zu unterstützen, ihre erste ausführliche wissenschaftlich Abschlussarbeit zu verfassen.
