smallforms w/ Hylut x PEB x Jukebox Utopia

the monthly series of smallforms seeks to support contemporary and experimental forms of music which require an attitude of listening. in collaboration with the artspace Chateau Rouge run by performer and artist Elisabeth Bakambamba Tambwe.

Hylut is a solo project by Lithuanian artist and composer Marija Jociūtė. In her sound work she uses pre-existing content, such as scientific data as part of her material. Through processes of deconstruction, manipulation, and recontextualization, she plays with the potential of auditory and narrative story telling. Hylut weaves together sounds of synthesizers, pulses of rhythm machines, digital elements as well as her own voice to create organically morphing sound compositions, which explore new correlations between tangible and ephemeral truths of our collective perception.

PΞB crawled out of a defunct furnace somewhere in Berlin. Industrialized Progcrustination. Harsh soundscapes cut into pieces, like a cake made from mud and your hard-boiled psyche. The road kill drum patterns and Vorpommern Chainsaw Massacre vocals, kidnaps the listeners into a soulless hole from where they might come back a little injured. Phantom ear bleeding is a common side effect lingering long past the journey. A souvenir, a Stockholm syndrome of sorts. This inconspicuous duo left their marks in various cellar holes and captured their tantrum so far in a cassette tape, called IAMCHAINSAW, released on Edelfaul Records.

Jukebox Utopia collects records, produces radioshows, journalistic texts, dj-sets, mixes and academic research about music. She dives deep into all kinds of musical genres, but when she is djing live in clubs dancing is the aim and purpose: oldschool hiphop merges with contemporary bass musics, or gabber and other sportive highspeed hardcore styles are fused, preferably in vinyl sets. In 2018 her book “Utopie und Apokalypse in der Pop Musik. Gabber und Breakcore in Berlin” was published via the University of Vienna.
